ٹین ڈاؤننگ سٹریٹ پر پریس کانفرنس کے دوران برطانوی وزیر اعظم نے کہا کہ قیادت کے لیے انتخاب مکمل ہونے تک عہدے پر برقرار رہوں گا، لیبر قیادت کے انتخاب کے لیے نامزدگیاں 9 جولائی سے اوپن ہوں گی، نیشنل ایگزیکٹو کمیٹی سے انتخابی شیڈول طے کرنے کی درخواست کروں گا۔
ان کا کہنا تھا کہ بار بار یہ بتایا گیا ہماری پارٹی کمزور ہوگئی اور ختم ہوگئی، میں پارٹی کی خواہش پر پارٹی لیڈرشپ سے مستعفی ہوتا ہو، لیبر پارٹی قیادت کے انتخاب کا باقاعدہ ٹائم ٹیبل جلد جاری کیا جائے گا، آج صبح کنگ چارلس سے گفتگو ہوئی، تاہم اپنے جانشین کو مکمل تعاون اور بھرپور حمایت فراہم کروں گا۔
برطانوی وزیراعظم نے مزید کہا کہ اقتدار کی منتقلی کو منظم اور ہموار بنانے کے لیے ہر ممکن اقدام اٹھاؤں گا۔
خیال رہےۃ کہ چار برسوں میں تیسری بار برطانیہ ایک ایسے مرحلے پر پہنچا ہے جہاں وزیرِاعظم نے عام انتخابات میں شکست کے باعث نہیں بلکہ اپنی ہی جماعت کے دباؤ کے تحت اقتدار چھوڑنے کا اعلان کیا ہے۔

During a press conference at 10 Downing Street, the British Prime Minister said that he will remain in office until the leadership election is completed. Nominations for the Labor leadership election will be open from July 9. He will request the National Executive Committee to set an election schedule.
He said that it has been repeatedly said that our party has become weak and has ended. I am resigning from the party leadership at the party’s request. The regular timetable for the Labor Party leadership election will be released soon. I spoke with King Charles this morning. However, I will provide full cooperation and full support to my successor.
The British Prime Minister added that he will take all possible steps to ensure an orderly and smooth transition of power.
It should be noted that for the third time in four years, Britain has reached a stage where the Prime Minister has announced his resignation not due to defeat in the general election but under pressure from his own party.
