“Founder PTI is out of the race for the chancellorship of Oxford, but many Pakistanis are included in the candidates”

برطانیہ کی مشہور یونیورسٹی آکسفرڈ نے اپنے نئے چانسلر کے لیے 38 امیدواروں کی حتمی فہرست جاری کر دی ہے اور اس میں پاکستان کے سابق وزیراعظم عمران خان کا نام شامل نہیں ہے۔
آکسفرڈ کے نئے چانسلر کے انتخاب کا عمل 28 اکتوبر سے شروع ہو گا۔
عمران خان کے مشیر زلفی بخاری نے تحریکِ انصاف کے بانی کو بطور امیدوار منتخب نہ کیے جانے کے حوالے سے بی بی سی کو بتایا کہ یہ ایک انتہائی مایوس کن خبر ہے۔
ان کا کہنا تھا کہ ’عمران خان ایک عالمی آواز ہیں اور کوئی وجہ نہیں کہ انھیں اس انتخاب میں شرکت نہ کرنے دی جائے۔‘ اور یہ کہ عمران خان کو چانسلر کے انتخاب میں شرکت کے لیے منتخب نہ کرنا خود ’آکسفرڈ یونیورسٹی کا نقصان ہے جو خود کو عالمی رجحان ساز ادارے کے طور پر پیش کرتی ہے۔‘
تحریکِ انصاف کے بانی کی جانب سے چانسلر کے انتخاب میں شرکت کے لیے بطور امیدوار درخواست مقررہ مدت کے آخری دن 18 اگست 2024 کو جمع کروائی گئی جس کا اعلان عمران خان کے مشیر زلفی بخاری ہی نے سوشل میڈیا پلیٹ فارم ایکس پر کیا تھا۔
اس وقت اس بارے میں بی بی سی سے بات کرتے ہوئے ان کا کہنا تھا کہ ’عمران خان کیوں نہ ان انتخابات میں حصہ لیں، یہ ایک انتہائی باوقار منصب ہے۔‘
ان کا مزید کہنا تھا کہ ’وہ (عمران خان) ماضی میں بریڈ فورڈ یونیورسٹی کے چانسلر رہ چکے ہیں اور انھوں نے یہ اہم ذمہ داری بڑی دیانت داری سے نبھائی۔ لہٰذا وہ اس منصب کے لیے سب سے زیادہ اہل شخص ہیں۔ ان کے کیس ختم ہو رہے ہیں اور اگر وہ انتخابات جیت جاتے ہیں تو وہ انشاء اللہ دسمبر تک ذاتی طور پر ذمہ داریاں سنبھالیں گے۔‘
آکسفرڈ یونیورسٹی کی ویب سائٹ پر موجود معلومات کے مطابق یہ پہلا موقع تھا کہ چانسلر کے انتخاب کے لیے ’اوپن ایپلیکیشن پراسیس‘ استعمال کیا گیا تاکہ مختلف پس منظر والے امیدواران سامنے آ سکیں۔
یونیورسٹی کا کہنا ہے کہ چانسلر الیکشن کمیٹی نے تمام درخواستوں کو یونیورسٹی کے ضوابط کے تحت طے شدہ معیار پر پرکھا جس کے بعد 16 اکتوبر کو 38 امیدواروں کی حتمی فہرست جاری کی گئی ہے جن میں سے کم از کم پانچ افراد ایسے ہیں جنھوں نے اپنا تعلق پاکستان سے ظاہر کیا ہے۔

The famous University of Oxford has released the final list of 38 candidates for its new chancellor and it does not include the name of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan.
The process of electing the new Chancellor of Oxford will begin on October 28.
Imran Khan’s advisor Zulfi Bukhari told BBC that the founder of Tehreek-e-Insaf was not selected as a candidate, saying it is a very disappointing news.
He said that ‘Imran Khan is a global voice and there is no reason why he should not be allowed to participate in this election.’ which presents itself as a global trendsetter.’
The application submitted by the founder of Tehreek-e-Insaaf as a candidate for the chancellor election was on August 18, 2024, the last day of the deadline, which was announced by Imran Khan’s advisor Zulfi Bukhari on social media platform X.
While talking to BBC about this at that time, he said that ‘Why should Imran Khan not participate in these elections, this is a very prestigious position.’
He further said that he (Imran Khan) has been the Chancellor of Bradford University in the past and he fulfilled this important responsibility with great integrity. So he is the most qualified person for this position. His cases are ending and if he wins the elections, he will personally take charge by December, God willing.
According to information on Oxford University’s website, this was the first time that an ‘open application process’ was used to select a chancellor, so that candidates from diverse backgrounds could come forward.
The university said that the Chancellor’s Election Committee screened all the applications against the criteria laid down in the university’s regulations, after which a final list of 38 candidates was released on October 16, out of which at least five candidates have submitted their The relationship with Pakistan has been shown.
