خبر رساں ادارے کے مطابق 15 رکنی سلامتی کونسل آج (18 اپریل ) دوپہر 3 بجے ووٹ ڈالے گی جس میں 193 رکنی اقوام متحدہ کی جنرل اسمبلی کو سفارش کی گئی ہے کہ ریاست فلسطین کو اقوام متحدہ کی رکنیت میں داخل کیا جائے۔
کونسل کی قرارداد منظور کرنے کیلئے اس کے حق میں کم از کم 9 ووٹوں کی ضرورت ہوتی ہے اور امریکا، برطانیہ، فرانس، روس یا چین کی طرف سے کوئی ویٹو نہیں ہوتا ہے۔
سفارت کاروں کا خیال ہے کہ اس اقدام کو کونسل کے 13 ارکان کی حمایت حاصل ہو سکتی ہے، جس کا مطلب یہ ہو گا کہ امریکا کو اپنا ویٹو پاور استعمال کرنا پڑے گا۔
کونسل کے رکن ملک الجزائر نے درخواست کی تھی کہ اس پر جمعرات کی سہ پہر مشرق وسطیٰ پر سلامتی کونسل کے اس اجلاس کے موقع پر ووٹنگ کی جائے، جس میں متعدد وزراء شرکت کریں گے۔
اس حوالے سے امریکا کا کہنا ہے کہ آزاد فلسطینی ریاست کا قیام اقوام متحدہ میں نہیں بلکہ فریقین کے درمیان براہ راست مذاکرات کے ذریعے ہونا چاہیے ۔
یاد رہے کہ خیال رہے کہ فلسطینی اتھارٹی کو 2012 سے اقوامِ متحدہ میں غیر رکن مبصر کا درجہ تو حاصل ہے لیکن رکنیت نہیں دی گئی، سلامتی کونسل کے 193 میں سے 140 رکن ممالک فلسطین کو تسلیم کرچکے ہیں۔
تاہم اقوام متحدہ کا ایک مکمل رکن بننےکی درخواست کو سلامتی کونسل سے منظوری کے بعد جنرل اسمبلی میں کم از کم دو تہائی ووٹوں سے منظوری درکار ہے۔
According to the news agency, the 15-member Security Council will vote today (April 18) at 3 pm, in which the 193-member United Nations General Assembly has recommended that the State of Palestine be admitted to the United Nations.
A council resolution needs at least 9 votes in favor to pass and no vetoes by the US, UK, France, Russia or China.
Diplomats believe the move could win the support of 13 council members, which would mean the US would have to use its veto power.
Council member Malik Algeria had requested that it be voted on Thursday afternoon on the sidelines of a Security Council meeting on the Middle East, which will be attended by several ministers.
In this regard, the United States says that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state should not take place in the United Nations, but through direct negotiations between the parties.
It should be remembered that the Palestinian Authority has the status of a non-member observer in the United Nations since 2012, but it has not been granted membership. 140 of the 193 member states of the Security Council have recognized Palestine.
However, an application to become a full member of the United Nations requires approval by at least two-thirds of the General Assembly after approval by the Security Council.
