3 years in prison and Rs 2 million fine on spreading Fake news, PECA Act Amendment Bill presented in National Assembly

وزیر قانون اعظم نذیر تارڑ نے پریوینشن آف الیکٹرانک کرائم ایکٹ (پیکا) میں مزید ترمیم کا بل قومی اسمبلی میں پیش کردیا۔ قومی اسمبلی میں پیش پیکا ایکٹ ترمیمی بل2025 کی تفصیلات سامنے آگئیں، پیکا ایکٹ کے تحت فیک نیوز پر سزا 3 سال، جرمانہ 20 لاکھ روپے تک ہوسکے گا۔
ترمیمی بل کے مطابق نئی شق 1 اے کے تحت سوشل میڈیا پروٹیکشن اینڈ ریگولیٹری اتھارٹی قائم کی جائے گی، پیکا ایکٹ کی خلاف ورزی پر اتھارٹی سوشل میڈیا پلیٹ فارم کے خلاف تادیبی کارروائی کی مجاز ہوگی، اتھارٹی متعلقہ اداروں کو سوشل میڈیا سے غیر قانونی مواد ہٹانے کی ہدایت جاری کرنے کی مجاز ہوگی۔
سوشل میڈیا پر غیر قانونی سرگرمیوں پر فرد 24 گھنٹے میں درخواست دینے کا پابند ہو گا، غیر قانونی آن لائن مواد کی تعریف میں اسلام مخالف، پاکستان کی سلامتی یا دفاع کے خلاف مواد شامل ہوگا۔
ضابطہ فوجداری بل 2025 بھی قومی اسمبلی میں پیش کردیا گیا، مقدمات کا فیصلہ 6 ماہ سے ایک سال میں کرنے اور ماڈرن ڈیوائسز کو قانون شہادت میں شامل کرنے کی ترامیم شامل کی گئی ہیں۔
وزیر قانون اعظم نذیر تارڑ نے کہا کہ نظام میں اتنی خرابیاں ہیں کہ کسی پر کچھ ثابت ہی نہیں ہوتا۔ مجرموں کو سزا دینے کی شرح بہت کم ہے۔ کل 108 ترامیم لائی جارہی ہیں۔ اپوزیشن پر تنقید کرتے ہوئے وزیر قانون نے کہا کہ اپویشن کو عوامی مسائل سے دلچسپی نہیں، وہ یہاں صرف ایک شخص کی رہائی کے نعرے لگانے اور لابی میں کھانا کھانے آتے ہیں۔

Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has presented a bill to further amend the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (PECA) in the National Assembly. Details of the PECA Amendment Bill 2025 presented in the National Assembly have come to light. Under the PECA Act, fake news can be punished for 3 years and a fine of up to Rs 2 million.
According to the amendment bill, a Social Media Protection and Regulatory Authority will be established under new clause 1A. The authority will be authorized to take disciplinary action against social media platforms for violation of the PECA Act. The authority will be authorized to issue instructions to the relevant institutions to remove illegal content from social media.
An individual will be required to apply within 24 hours for illegal activities on social media. The definition of illegal online content will include content that is anti-Islamic, against the security or defense of Pakistan.
The Criminal Procedure Code Bill 2025 was also presented in the National Assembly. Amendments have been included to decide cases in 6 months to one year and to include modern devices in the evidence law.
Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar said that there are so many flaws in the system that nothing is proven against anyone. The rate of punishment of criminals is very low. A total of 108 amendments are being brought. Criticizing the opposition, the Law Minister said that the opposition is not interested in public issues, they come here only to raise slogans for the release of one person and eat food in the lobby.
