Engineer Altaf Hussain appointed as Managing Director of NGC

انجینئر الطاف حسین نے نیشنل گرڈ کمپنی آف پاکستان لمیٹڈ (این جی سی) کے منیجنگ ڈائریکٹر کا عہدہ سنبھال لیا ہے۔الطاف حسین بجلی کی ترسیل اور تقسیم کے شعبے میں تین دہائیوں سے زائد کا بین الاقوامی تجربہ رکھتے ہیں۔ انہوں نے اپنے کیریئر کا آغاز 1987 میں واٹر اینڈ پاور ڈویلپمنٹ اتھارٹی (واپڈا) سے کیا، جہاں انہوں نے دس سال سے زیادہ خدمات انجام دیں۔ بعد ازاں کینیڈامیں پاور سیکٹر میں 27 سال گزارے۔ حال ہی میں وہ کینیڈا میں بجلی فراہم کرنے والی ایک بڑی کمپنی بی سی ہائیڈرومیں ڈائریکٹر آف ایسیٹ سٹریٹجی اینڈ پلاننگ کے عہدے پر فائز تھے جہاں انہوں نے گرڈسسٹم کی مضبوطی اور بجلی کی ترسیل کیلئے اہم اقدامات کیے۔ اپنے بین الاقوامی کیریئر کے دوران وہ پاکستان کے توانائی کے شعبے میں اپنا حصہ ڈالنے کےلئے واپس آنے کے عزم پر قائم رہے۔
منیجنگ ڈائریکٹر کی تقرری ایک اہم وقت میں ہوئی ہے جب این جی سی حکومت کے تنظیم نو کے پروگرام کے تحت سابقہ نیشنل ٹرانسمیشن اینڈ ڈسپیچ کمپنی (این ٹی ڈی سی) سے ٹرانفارمیشن کے مرحلے میں ہے۔ اِن اصلاحات کے نتیجے میں این جی سی کو قومی ترسیلی خدمات کی کمپنی کے طور پر قائم کیا ہے، ساتھ ہی دو نئے ادارے بھی تشکیل دیئے گئے ہیںجن میں انڈیپنڈنٹ سسٹم اینڈ مارکیٹ آپریٹر (آئی ایس ایم او) اور انرجی انفراسٹرکچر ڈیولپمنٹ اینڈ مینجمنٹ کمپنی (ای آئی ڈی ایم سی)شامل ہیں۔ اس تنظیم نو کا مقصد شفافیت، کارکردگی اورپاور سیکٹر کی کارکردگی کو بہتر بنانا ہے۔
بطورمنیجنگ ڈائریکٹر عہدہ سنبھالتے ہی انہوں نے ڈپٹی منیجنگ ڈائریکٹرز، جنرل منیجرز، سی سوٹ افسران ،چیف انجینئرز اور منیجرز سے آن لائن اجلاس میں خطاب کیا اور این جی سی کو ایک جدید، ترقی پسندادار ے میں تبدیل کرنے کےلئے اپنے وژن کا خاکہ پیش کیا۔ انہوں نے ٹیم ورک ، نئی ٹیکنالوجی کو اپنانے اور تمام سطحوں پر واضح رابطے کی اہمیت پر زور دیا۔ انہوں نے ادارے کے اندر صلاحیتوں کو فروغ دینے کےلئے رہنمائی اور کوچنگ کی ضرورت پر زور دیا اور این جی سی کو ایک جدت پر مبنی ادارہ بنانے کےلئے بین الاقوامی بہترین طریقوں اور ترسیلی نظام کی مینجمنٹ کے جدید طریقہ کار کو اپنانے کے عزم کااظہار کیا۔ انہوں نے امید ظاہر کی کہ این جی سی کی ٹیمیں ملک کی بجلی کی ضروریات اور اس کی اقتصادی ترقی میں معاونت کےلئے طے شدہ اہداف کو بروقت مکمل کریں گی۔
منیجنگ ڈائریکٹر این جی سی کے ترسیلی نیٹ ورک اور آپریشنزکی بہتری کیلئے اقدامات کریں گے۔ و ہ سسٹم اور مارکیٹ کے آپریشنز پر آئی ایس ایم او کے ساتھ اورڈویلپمنٹ منصوبوں پر ای آئی ڈی ایم سی کی معاونت بھی کریں گے۔

NGC teams will meet the country’s power needs and support economic growth on time, says Managing Director
Engineer Altaf Hussain has taken over as the Managing Director of National Grid Company of Pakistan Limited (NGC). Altaf Hussain has over three decades of international experience in the power transmission and distribution sector. He started his career in 1987 with the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), where he served for over ten years. Later, he spent 27 years in the power sector in Canada. Most recently, he held the position of Director of Asset Strategy and Planning at BC Hydro, a major power provider in Canada, where he took important steps for grid system resilience and power transmission. Throughout his international career, he remained committed to returning to contribute to Pakistan’s energy sector.
The appointment of the Managing Director comes at a crucial time when NGC is undergoing transformation from the erstwhile National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) under the government’s restructuring programme. The reforms have established NGC as a national transmission services company, along with the creation of two new entities, the Independent System and Market Operator (ISMO) and the Energy Infrastructure Development and Management Company (EIDMC). The restructuring is aimed at improving transparency, efficiency and effectiveness of the power sector.
Upon assuming office as the Managing Director, he addressed a virtual meeting with Deputy Managing Directors, General Managers, C-suite officers, Chief Engineers and Managers and outlined his vision for transforming NGC into a modern, progressive organisation. He stressed the importance of teamwork, adoption of new technology and clear communication at all levels. He stressed the need for mentoring and coaching to develop capabilities within the organization and expressed his commitment to adopt international best practices and modern methods of transmission system management to make NGC an innovation-driven organization. He expressed hope that the NGC teams would complete the set targets on time to support the country’s power needs and its economic development. The Managing Director will take steps to improve NGC’s transmission network and operations. He will also work with ISMO on system and market operations and support EIDMC on development projects.
