Defending wetlands is essential for ecological survival: Maryam Nawaz

وزیراعلیٰ پنجاب مریم نواز نے کہا ہے کہ ویٹ لینڈز ماحولیاتی تبدیلیوں کے خلاف دفاع ہے،اس کا تحفظ ماحولیاتی بقا کے لیے ناگزیر ہے۔
ورلڈ ویٹ لینڈز ڈے پر اپنے ایک پیغام میں وزیراعلیٰ پنجاب مریم نواز کا کہنا تھا کہ ویٹ لینڈز ہماری زمین کے پھیپھڑے کہلاتے ہیں اور آبی و جنگلی حیات کے مسکن ہیں، ویٹ لینڈز زمینی پانی کی سطح کو برقرار رکھتے اور کاربن جذب کرتے ہیں، سیلاب بھی کنٹرول کرتے ہیں۔
مریم نواز نے کہا کہ پنجاب حکومت نے ملکی تاریخ میں پہلی بار جامع ’’کلائمیٹ پالیسی‘‘ تشکیل دی ہے،کلائمیٹ پالیسی کے تحت ویٹ لینڈز اور دیگر قدرتی نظام کے تحفظ اور بحالی کو اولین ترجیح دی جا رہی ہے، ویٹ لینڈز اور دیگر قدرتی خزانوں کی نگرانی کے لیے واچ ٹاورز اور چیک پوسٹوں کی تعمیر کی جاری ہے۔
ان کا کہنا تھا کہ ویٹ لینڈز اور دیگر قدرتی مسکن پر تفریحی اور تحقیقی مقاصد کے لیے مخصوص سہولیات کی فراہمی یقینی بنا رہے ہیں، ماہی گیری کے نظام کو منظم کیا گیا ہے، خلاف ورزی پر سزائیں دی جا رہی ہیں ، ایسے کسی بھی عمل کی اجازت نہیں دی جائے گی جو ویٹ لینڈ یا دیگر علاقوں کےقدرتی توازن کو نقصان پہنچا سکے۔
وزیراعلیٰ پنجاب نے مزید کہا کہ پنجاب حکومت عوام، ماہرین اور عالمی اداروں کے ساتھ مل کر قدرتی ماحول کے تحفظ کیلئے کوشاں ہے، تمام شہری ماحول دوست طرزِ زندگی اپنائیں اور قدرتی وسائل کے تحفظ میں حکومت کا ساتھ دیں، زمین نئی نسلوں کی امانت ہے ،ہمیں اسے محفوظ اور بہتر بنانا ہے۔

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has said that wetlands are a defense against climate change, and their protection is essential for ecological survival.
In a message on World Wetlands Day, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that wetlands are called the lungs of our earth and are the habitat of aquatic and wildlife. Wetlands maintain groundwater levels, absorb carbon, and also control floods.
Maryam Nawaz said that the Punjab government has formulated a comprehensive “climate policy” for the first time in the country’s history. Under the climate policy, the protection and restoration of wetlands and other natural systems is being given top priority. Watchtowers and check posts are being constructed to monitor wetlands and other natural resources.
He said that they are ensuring the provision of specific facilities for recreational and research purposes in wetlands and other natural habitats, the fishing system has been regulated, penalties are being given for violations, no such action will be allowed that can harm the natural balance of wetlands or other areas. The Chief Minister of Punjab further said that the Punjab government is working with the public, experts and international organizations to protect the natural environment, all citizens should adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle and support the government in conserving natural resources, the earth is the trust of new generations, we have to protect and improve it.
