7.7 magnitude earthquake hits Myanmar, collapses several buildings, dozens killed

میانمار کے وسطی حصے میں جمعے کو دوپہر مقامی وقت کے مطابق 12:50 بجے 7.7 شدت کا زلزلہ محسوس کیا گیا، جس کے بعد 6.8 شدت کا آفٹرشاک بھی آیا۔
امریکی جیولوجیکل سروے کے مطابق زلزلے کا مرکز سگائنگ شہر سے 16 کلومیٹر شمال مغرب میں اور 10 کلومیٹر کی گہرائی پر تھا، 50 سے زیادہ لوگوں کے لاپتہ ہونے کی اطلاع ہے اور متعدد ہلاکتوں کا خدشہ ظاہر کیا جارہا ہے۔
اطلاعات کے مطابق بنکاک کے چٹوچک محلے میں ایک زیر تعمیر فلک بوس عمارت کو منہدم ہونے سے 43 مزدور ملبے تلے دب گئے ہیں۔
بین الاقوامی میڈیا کے مطابق زلزلے کے جھٹکے شمالی تھائی لینڈ تک محسوس کیے گئے، جہاں دارالحکومت بنکاک میں میٹرو اور ریل کی سروسز معطل کردی گئیں جبکہ چین کے صوبے یونان میں بھی زلزلے کے جھٹکے ریکارڈ کیے گئے۔
تھائی لینڈ کی وزیراعظم پیٹونگتھرن شنواترا صورت حال کا جائزہ لینے کےلیے ہنگامی اجلاس کر رہی ہیں، جبکہ چین کے ارضیاتی مرکز نے یونان میں زلزلے کی شدت 7.9 بتائی ہے۔

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar at 12:50 p.m. local time on Friday, followed by a 6.8-magnitude aftershock.
According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was 16 kilometers northwest of the city of Saginaw and at a depth of 10 kilometers. More than 50 people are reported missing and several deaths are feared.
According to reports, 43 workers were buried under the rubble after an under-construction skyscraper collapsed in Bangkok’s Chatuchak neighborhood.
According to international media, the tremors were felt as far as northern Thailand, where metro and rail services were suspended in the capital Bangkok, while tremors were also recorded in the Chinese province of Yunnan.
Thai Prime Minister Phatthana Shinawatra is holding an emergency meeting to review the situation, while the China Geological Survey has put the magnitude of the earthquake in Yunnan at 7.9.
