Britain’s first Muslim Lord Chancellor of Pakistani origin

برطانوی رکنِ پارلیمنٹ شبانہ محمود نے برطانیہ کی پہلی مسلمان لارڈ چانسلر کے طور پر حلف اٹھا لیا۔ یہ ایک تاریخی موقع تھا جب پاکستانی نژاد شبانہ محمود نے قرآن پاک پر حلف اٹھایا اور قانون کی حکمرانی کے دفاع اور انسانی حقوق کی پاسداری کا عہد کیا۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ آج کوئی ایک نہیں تین تاریخی چیزیں ہوئی ہیں، پہلی خاتون لارڈ چانسلر نے حلف اٹھایا، پہلی بار کسی لارڈ چانسلر نے قرآن پر حلف اٹھایا اور پہلی بار ایک خاتون چیف جسٹس نے لارڈ چانسلر کا حلف لیا، یہ سنگ میل ہمارے آئین کے ارتقاء کا مظہر ہے۔
شبانہ محمود نے اِس اعزاز پر اظہار تشکر کیا، انہوں نے بتایا کہ وہ کیسے برمنگھم کے ایک عام علاقے میں اپنے والدین کی کارنر شاپ میں کام کرتی تھیں اور ایک طویل سفر کے بعد اِس مقام پر پہنچ گئیں۔
انہوں نے کہا کہ پہلی بار کوئی ذمہ داری سنبھالنا ایک اعزاز اور بوجھ دونوں ہوتا ہے، یہ حق ملنے سے آنے والی نسلوں کے لیے دروازے کھلیں گے۔شبانہ محمود نے بتایا کہ میں پہلی لارڈ چانسلر ہوں جو اردو بول سکتی ہے۔ انہوں نے اس بات پر زور دیا کہ عدلیہ کو سیاسی دباؤ اور غیر ضروری اثر و رسوخ کے بغیر فیصلے کرنے چاہئیں۔

British Member of Parliament Shabana Mehmood was sworn in as the first Muslim Lord Chancellor of Great Britain. It was a historic occasion when Shabana Mehmood of Pakistani origin took an oath on the Holy Quran and vowed to defend the rule of law and uphold human rights.
Presiding over the function, the first woman Chief Justice Dame Soo Kar highlighted several historical aspects of the occasion.
He said that not one but three historic things have happened today, the first woman lord chancellor took oath, the first time a lord chancellor took oath on Quran and the first time a woman chief justice took the oath of lord chancellor. It is a manifestation of the evolution of the constitution.
Shabana Mahmood expressed her gratitude for the honour, recounting how she used to work in her parents’ corner shop in a typical area of ​​Birmingham and reached this position after a long journey.
He said that assuming a responsibility for the first time is both an honor and a burden, getting this right will open doors for future generations. Shabana Mahmood said that I am the first Lord Chancellor who can speak Urdu. He stressed that the judiciary should take decisions without political pressure and undue influence.
